Employment Specialist - ACT Team - The Guidance Center of Westchester

PROGRAM: Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)

HOURS: Full-Time 35 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Guidance Center of Westchester seeks an experienced

Employment Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team based in Mount Vernon, New York and serving all of Westchester County.

ACT is a mobile program that delivers comprehensive services in a team approach, to individuals who are diagnosed with serious mental illness and whose needs have not been well met by more traditional, facility-based, services.

ACT services are evidence-based, person-centered, and individualized, and focused on outcomes for community reintegration, mental health stability, and active participation in normal life roles for work, education, living, relationships, and socialization.

Most services are delivered in the community in natural settings where problems arise.

Team members provide about 80% of services in the field.

Crisis services are available from Team members 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on a rotational basis.

The ACT Team consists of a multi-disciplinary staff that includes a director, psychiatrist, RN, program assistant, and specialists in family, employment, housing, substance abuse, and peer wellness.

Each clinical team member carries a shared caseload, and provides assessment, service planning, general case management services in addition to any specialized services needed by recipients.

Specific responsibilities of the Employment Specialist: The ACT Team Employment Specialist is a clinical staff member who, in addition to performing routine and general team duties, has lead responsibility for integrating vocational goals and services with the tasks of all team members.

This staff member provides needed assistance through all phases of the vocational service including vocational assessment, work readiness training, job search skills, job development, and job retention support.

Will also assist participants to identify and engage in the pursuit of education and training goals.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum 2 years of experience in vocational assessment, job exploration, and skills development in choosing, getting, and maintaining employment, employment counseling or vocational rehabilitation. Knowledge of Westchester County employment resources, ACCES-VR, One-Stop, etc.

Clean NYS driver’s license

Electronic health reporting experience strongly preferred; excellent computer, writing and oral communication skills essential.

Knowledge of mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

Willingness to deliver up to 80% of services in the field including at participants’ homes throughout Westchester County.
