It's National Bike to Work Week!

Written by Kristin Anchante, Project Manager

It’s no coincidence that National Bike to Work Week (May 17-23) falls during Mental Health Awareness month. The mental and physical health benefits are vast, yet often underrated. According to The League of American Bicyclists, “40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get around” (1). Whether it be a trip to work, the grocery store, or just around the block, you’re bound to have some fun and get a little exercise in too!

Benefits of Cycling (2,3):

  • Improve mental well-being and memory

  • Promote weight loss

  • Reduce heart disease and cancer risk

  • Low impact exercise for your bones and joints

  • Sleep better

  • And many more!

Fun Things to Try this Weekend:

  • Take a smooth ride on your local rail trail

  • Mountain bike with a few friends

  • Enter a street race

  • Take your kids on a family biking tour of your neighborhood

  • Don’t have a bike? Try out a spin class at your local gym instead

So, when was the last time you hopped on a bike?
