It’s no coincidence that National Bike to Work Week (May 17-23) falls during Mental Health Awareness month. The mental and physical health benefits are vast, yet often underrated. According to The League of American Bicyclists, “40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get around” (1). Whether it be a trip to work, the grocery store, or just around the block, you’re bound to have some fun and get a little exercise in too!
Benefits of Cycling (2,3):
Improve mental well-being and memory
Promote weight loss
Reduce heart disease and cancer risk
Low impact exercise for your bones and joints
Sleep better
And many more!
Fun Things to Try this Weekend:
Take a smooth ride on your local rail trail
Mountain bike with a few friends
Enter a street race
Take your kids on a family biking tour of your neighborhood
Don’t have a bike? Try out a spin class at your local gym instead
