Don't Forget to Make Time for YOU

Written by Kristin Anchante, Project Manager

February is the month of love –we celebrate friendships, family, and significant others. But what about finding time for ourselves? People tend to shy away from self-care because they associate the phrase with being selfish. In reality, it’s anything but. When you carve out a little “you time” into each day, you’re able to relax and recharge so you can be the best version of yourself, which will improve your relationships with everyone else.

Here are a few self-care ideas. Some take as little as ten minutes a day, so they’ll be easy to squeeze in, even if you think you don’t have time.

  • Grab Some Crayons – Adult coloring books are a lot of fun. Just feel the tension in your shoulders melt away as you shade in a nice landscape, inspiring words, geometric shapes, and more. If you can think it, there’s a coloring book for it. Just get yourself a pack of crayons, markers, or colored pencils (or borrow from your kids!) and have at it. Grown up you doesn’t even have to stay in the lines #rulebreaker.

  • Read a Book (or Magazine) –There are so many genres to explore. Maybe you want to get lost in a new detective series, learn how to reduce clutter, become better with finances, or escape with a fun rom-com. Whatever you’re interested in, there’s a book for it. Curl up with your favorite blanket and warm beverage and get lost in another world.

  • Work it Out –You don’t have to hit the gym for two hours to feel the benefits of exercise. It can come in many forms –walks around the neighborhood, sledding or building a snowman with your kids, tidying up the house. Put a little music on and dance like no one’s watching -you’ll get a great mood boost.

  • Get Crafty –Do you crochet? Bake? Needlepoint? Arrange flowers? Sew? If it relaxes you, find time to do it a little each day. Browse Pinterest for inspiration and take a trip to your local craft store to stock up on supplies. You can even get the kids involved and keep them busy on a rainy or snowy day.

  • Take a Bubble Bath –Nothing beats a nice warm soak after a long and stressful day. Throw in some Epsom salts, essential oils, or a fun bath bomb and relax.

  • Look for Happiness – Have you heard of the #100HappyDays Challenge? The main idea is to post a picture on social media of something that makes you happy each day for 100 consecutive days. If you can find just one little happy thing in each day, your life will be a little bit brighter.

How do you relax or take care of yourself? Let us know in the comments!
